PTSD is a condition that develops after exposure to a terrifying event or ordeal, resulting in intrusive memories, avoidance behaviors, negative alterations in mood/cognition, and hyperarousal. Cyndia Milord-Giordani, PMHNP-BC, provides trauma-informed, sensitive care in a safe environment, helping clients process trauma and integrate their experiences healthily.
Our goal is to move from survival to thriving through a careful combination of psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and specialized therapy.
Trauma-informed care is essential. Following a sensitive psychiatric evaluation, treatment prioritizes creating emotional safety and stability. Psychotherapy techniques are used to gently process the trauma, reduce the power of intrusive symptoms, and develop emotional regulation skills. Medication management may be used to address associated symptoms like severe anxiety, depression, or nightmares, ensuring the client has the stability needed to engage in therapy.
It means we operate with sensitivity, prioritizing safety, trust, collaboration, and client empowerment throughout the entire treatment process.
Recovery is unique to each person. Consistency in therapy and adherence to the medication management plan are the best predictors of progress.
